Who am I in Christ? I’ve heard people say to me “Find your identity in Christ”, but how do I do that? How do I start?
Have you asked those questions? I have too. Here are some tips on how to find your true identity in Christ, and some verses that will show you who you are in Christ.
Tip #1. Read your bible. Seriously y’all, you cannot get anywhere in your relationship with Jesus by leaving your bible as a decoration on your nightstand. You have got to read it, study it, and meditate on it! This is the Word of God written to you! Read it!
Tip #2. Do not listen to what the devil tells you. Now you might be thinking “I don’t listen to the devil” but let me ask you this: Have you ever thought you are stupid, worthless, unloved, unusable, unwanted, insignificant, or ugly? Satin will try and tell you that you are all those things because you are made in the image of God. He wants to hide the fact that you are a picture of God and that you are beautiful/handsome because God is beautiful/ handsome! (I am not saying you are God or you are a god, you’re not. But you are a reflection of the one and only true God)
Tip #3. Don’t listen to most secular music out today. A lot of what is popular in today’s world is dirty, demonic, ungodly, depressing (especially if it’s love songs and you are single), and pointless. By listening to that type of music, you are filling your mind with lies and you are going to end up depressed and empty inside. (And you might be letting demons into your home) Instead, fill your mind with worship music and songs that remind you of the goodness of God. Now, I don’t think that just because a song is written by a non-Christian that it should be shunned, but if you are listening to songs that aren’t necessarily Christian, make sure they don’t have: cuss words, sexual lyrics or lyrics that imply something sexual, and any lyrics that are demonic or disrespect God. (And like I said, you could be inviting demons into your home without even knowing it!)
WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST
You are God’s Child-John 1:12- You have been adopted into the family of God!
You are Christ’s Friend-John 15:15- He’s your friend! He wants to get to know you, talk to you, hang out with you!
You have been Justified-Romans 5:1- Just-As-If-I-Never-Sinned. When God looks at you, He sees Jesus’s finished work on the cross, not your sins.
You have been Redeemed and Forgiven- Colossians 1:14- Jesus didn’t just forgive and forget your past sins, He redeemed them!
You are Complete in Christ- Colossians 2:10- Science says you need three things survive: food, water, and light. Jesus says “I am the bread of life” (Jn 8:12), “Who ever believes in me will have living water flowing out of him” (Jn 7:38) and “I am the light of the world” (Jn 8:12). So what science is really saying is “You need Jesus to survive. Therefore, you are complete in Christ.
You are Free Forever From Condemnation- Romans 8:1-2- You are free! You are not condemned because Jesus took the condemnation for you!
You are Assured all Works Together for Good- Romans 8:28- God loves you more than anyone else, and because He loves you that much, He is going to work everything in your life for good!
You Cannot be Separated From the Love of God- Romans 8:35-39- NOTHING, no one single thing can keep God from loving you. He loves you with an everlasting love, He has never started loving you, and He will never stop loving you. And there is nothing that you can do to stop Him from loving you. (Even you, atheists, He still loves you even though you don’t believe He is real! hehe)
You are a Citizen of Heaven- Philippians 3:20- You. Do. Not. Belong. To. This. World. Period. Your home is in heaven.
You are Born of God; No Evil Can Touch You- 1 John 5:18- Now look, this doesn’t mean you are going to have no problems in life, they’re coming. But nothing can touch you that God didn’t allow. And He allowed that thing in your life because He knows you can handle it and that you will be more like Him as a result.
You are God’s Temple- 1 Corinthians 3:16- Be careful what you wear, what you say, and how you act. You are representing God to the world, and you do not want to give people a bad reputation. (So please, don’t cuss. Please, just don’t. And girls, put some more clothes on!)
You can do all Things Through Christ who Gives you Strength- Philippians 4:13- Whatever He tells you to do, He’s gonna give you the strength!
