Hey guys I am starting out a new long series on my blog! It is going to be my notes from all of the Psalms, I will post once a week. I hope you enjoy.
The psalmist starts out by saying blessed is the man who does not do… walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers. Then he proceeds to say what the blessed man does do… the blessed man puts his delight in the law of the Lord. And not only does he delight on the law of the Lord, on it he meditates day and night! Then the psalmist goes on and explains how the blessed man’s lifestyle plays out. He is like a tree planted by the rivers of water. Let’s say that Jesus is the rivers of water, so if the blessed man plants himself by the rivers of water (Jesus) he will have life because Jesus is the life, and a tree does not have life without water. Likewise the blessed man does not have life without Jesus. Now that the blessed man has life (water=Jesus=life) he brings forth fruit and his leaves shall not wither. And because he is firmly planted in Jesus and is following his ways, whatever he does shall prosper. This is what out life as Christians should look like.
Now on to the ungodly. The ungodly are who we need to run away from. But let me tell you what the ungodly man is like. He is like chaff which the wind drives away. Chaff is the shell of wheat. When you are harvesting the wheat you rub on it and the chaff comes off. Because it is so delicate it blows away in the wind. Now the ungodly man seems like a good person from the outside, but when pressure comes from life he cannot withstand it. Likewise the chaff on the wind is blown away. The ungodly shall not stand when the judgment of God comes, nor sit in the congregation of the righteous. The sinful man does not want to hangout with the righteous. Why? Because with the righteous is light and with light the ungodly man’s sins are revealed. So he stays in the dark where no one can see his sins. This is what our like as Christians should not look like.
“For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
Psalm 1:6
So how are you living? Are you living in right standard with God, or are you looking like a good person on the outside but living for your flesh inside. Only God knows how you are living and he will judge you based on that.
Next week we will discuss: Psalm two
